The Influence of Following Public Figures Official Social Media Accounts and Pages on Teens Para-Social Interaction

Abstract

This study seeks to analyze how users are developing their para-social interaction on social media sites (Facebook, Instagram, Twitter and You tube) with public figures in different fields; arts, cinema, sport etc. and identify teens motive for following these accounts and pages, and their cognitive, behavioral and emotional response.
The main results show that the intensified exposure to the public figures pages and accounts contribute in para-social interaction, and such interaction is considered a source to convince the followers with the ideas and opinion of the public figures.
Furthermore, the results revealed that the para-social interaction helps in achieving social and emotional satisfaction, teens learn through following these accounts and pages how public figures behave, and they develop their knowledge about these figures.
Finally, para-social interaction is all about teens cognitive, emotional, and behavior response to their favorite public figure, as social media helps in getting teens more close to their favorite figures in different fields
