Social media plays an important role in modern society, as it shed light on different issues and topics that face our society. In the last few years, there were increase interest in presenting services and educational programs for children with special needs generally and children with developmental and intellectual disabilities.
This study seeks to analyze to what extent parents depend on social media sites as source of information about disability and how it satisfies the needs of the children with developmental and intellectual disabilities.
This study uses the media dependency theory to acknowledge the cognitive, affective and behavioral effect through using a survey on a sample of parents and content analysis to a sample of social media sites
The results show that children with developmental and intellectual disabilities seeks to satisfy the needs to learn new skills, then to know about their nutrition system, finally their academic needs.
Furthermore, Facebook, Twitter, You Tube, and what’s app came at the top of the most followed social media sites.
