The Relationship between the uses of Self-Development through Social Media Sites and the Formation of Psychological Capital:

Abstract

This paper present different perspective to study social media sites not from the perspective of the uses of these sites as a mean of social communication, but as a tool for self-development. So, this paper seeks to identify how public relations practitioners in Egyptian and Saudi governmental institutions develop themselves through social media sites and examine the impact of these uses on building and formatting their psychological capital.
This paper depends on Self-Development Competence Model and the Psychological Capital Theory using a questionnaire on a sample on public relations practitioner in both Egyptian and Saudi governmental institutions.
The results show that most of the public relations practitioners in both Egyptian and Saudi governmental institutions depend on social media sites to accomplish and finish their missions and they trust to an extent the content posted on these sites.
Furthermore, the Egyptian public relations practitioners depend on the great extent on social media sites to develop themselves professionally and socially, on the contrary most of the Saudi public relations practitioners do not depend on social media to accomplish such objectives.
