College Students Motives and gratifications of Watching Competitions Programs of Arabic Satellite Channels

Abstract

This study aims to identify the motives behind the growing popularity of competitions programs among college students and what are the gratifications achieved through watching it. The analysis found that competitions programs are favourable by college students in Port Said University. They consider it as entertainment content benefited basically from the famous celebrities, artists, actors, and athletes. The audio-visual effects used in these programs optimizes audience attraction and viewership rates. The study concluded that 95% of the university students prefer competitions programs as entertainment content and this fact led Tv channels to add this type of content to the program map for its profitability.
