Abstract

This study seeks to discover, analyze, and explain how Egyptian youth consume culture and interact with social networks, furthermore, this study aims to criticize Egyptian youth patterns of interaction with social network and how it impacts their cultural identity in terms of normative, cognitive, and materialistic aspect.
This study depends on both survey and critical methods using unstructured focus groups discussion on a sample of 6 different groups representing different cultural orientations.
The results show that there are drastic changes in the Egyptian youth cultural identity, and the present cultural identity is the total opposite from the authentic and genuine identity. These changes took place with the introduction of the television and the widespread of the cinema. At the mid of the twentieth century the film industry focused on humor rather than commitment and supported reckless and negative behavior of youth. Finally, the supremacy of globalization values on how Egyptian youth interact with social network, which respectively affected their way of thinking and their behaviors.
