Mechanism of Media Manipulation in the Fake Facebook accounts for Egyptian Newspapers:

Abstract

This study seeks to analyze the different mechanisms the fake Facebook accounts used in their discourse, also identifying the motives behind creating such accounts, and finally examining the professional practices and persuasion strategies used on these accounts.
This study depends on Case Study Method on a sample of two fake Facebook accounts for El Youm 7 and El bawaba News through the period from first of April 2017 till the end of April 2018.
The results of the study revealed that the fake Facebook account didn’t focus on in depth information but concentrated more on emotional appeals, also these accounts didn’t use traditional media manipulation techniques but implemented techniques related to propaganda and psychological warfare through spreading negative news to undermine citizens moral sentiments.
Finally, the study showed a clear similarity between the two accounts which indicate that these pages are the results of organized and systematic effort rather than random and unplanned work.
