Abstract

Since January 2011, there has been a considerable problem with religious discourse due to the newly formed interconnectedness between religion and politics. There appeared a dualism in the religious discourse where each group expresses its opinions in mosques. This study examines the opinions of Islamic scholars, preachers and communicators responsible for renewing the religious discourse. The study attempts to understanding their views on how to formulate a balanced religious discourse that unify Muslims and adapt to the contemporary age. This study is a quantitative study that uses the survey method. The researcher distributed questionnaires on a purposive sample of 250 Imams registered at the Egyptian endowments’ ministry. The study found that all respondents identified the endowments’ ministry and Al-Azhar as the only entities responsible for renewing the religious discourse. They stressed that such renewal of religious discourse helps improve the image of Islam in the West and correct the wrong concepts that relates Islam to terrorism
