Abstract

There has been a huge increase in numbers of corruption cases discovered across governmental agencies according to Transparency International. Egyptian President Al-Sisi in 2015 indicated that corruption is as dangerous as terrorism and declared the national strategy to fight it. This study aims to understand the correlation between exposure to news websites and the level of knowledge about the national strategy to fight corruption. It uses the notions of public sphere and media richness theory as theoretical frameworks to further understand the usage of news websites and their potential influence on knowledge. This study is a quantitative study that uses survey method to collect data from a purposive sample of 400 educational media specialists. The findings indicate that news websites were the most valued sources of knowledge about national strategy to fight corruption, followed by social media and satellite TV channels. Educational media specialists perceive news websites as credible sources of information.
