The uses and gratifications of Upper Egypt elites to regional websites

Abstract

The regional websites in Upper Egypt help connect between users and institutions and companies there. They also help save time and effort through providing lots of services to Upper Egypt inhabitants. This study aims at identifying the degree of importance of these websites to the political, academic and media elites in Upper Egypt. It examines uses and gratifications of these websites. The researcher used the survey method and distributed a questionnaire on a purposive sample of 200 respondents from the elites in Upper Egypt. The study showed that elites regularly browse those Upper-Egypt-focused websites, particularly those oriented to news. Surprisingly, sports websites were among the least valued type of regional websites, according to the surveyed elites. They were all satisfied with content provided, as it helped them to learn more about their surrounding environment and pass their time. Meniawy was the most visited website followed by Meniawy online and Beni-Seuf Baladna.
