Abstract

The mass media play a significant role in forming the social behavior of children. They have become an important factor in unifying ideas, habits, behavior patterns and principals, particularly due to the weakness of other social institutions, including families, schools and religious institutions. The need for media literacy has become a necessity among the children to counter the strong mass media impact caused by the digital technology. This study examines the role of media literacy programs in improving media use skills among students and suggest a potential way to activate media literacy programs in the Egyptian society with the help of education and media experts. The researcher uses critical theory and protection approach as a theoretical framework. She uses face-to-face questionnaire to collect data from 100 education and media experts. She concludes that media literacy should be a core course in the school curriculum, and that schools must collaborate with social and religious organizations to spread media literacy across the society.
