Abstract

Iconographic analysis tries to link, in a systematic way, the pictorial representation with historical information, by researching both written and pictorial events, as the harmony or difference between images and historical events achieves a set of objectives, including: Completing what the text or historical document did not say, and amending what The text said. On this basis, the iconological analysis is associated with both images and texts, as they are two sides of the truth that words are difficult to observe, so we are facing two layers from the meaning, one of them is monitored by pictures and the second is expressed by texts. The Suez Canal is a mirror that reflects the history of Egypt, starting from its digging through its opening ceremonies until the occupation of Egypt till the establishment of the new Suez Canal in 2015. All these historical scenes were recorded through historical documents and the image was an influencing factor in it, so the study deals with the iconic approach to uncover the different layers of meaning within the images that monitor the events of the Suez Canal and the clues behind the image represented by historical texts.
