Key factors of sharing online news by Egyptian Youth

Abstract

This paper borrows the lenses of network construction theory to analyse relationship between sharing news across networks and the motives behind this sharing. As a matter of fact, audience styles of consuming news reports have been dramatically changed in the last decade. The gatekeeping function became a common practice performed by multiple netizens. This study identifies variables that are responsible for the magnitude of sharing news among young people in Egypt. These variables are classified to cognitive and social in addition to self-actualization, and entertainment motives. The demographic variables, type of news, society network construction factors, electronic applications, and news sources are also significant elements in determining the reasons and motives of sharing news among youth in Egypt.
