Strategies of the argumentative speech replying to readers' comments in the pages of Egyptian online newspapers on the Facebook network

Abstract

This paper aims to examine the persuasive structure of the arguments discourse in the comments of readers about the bombing of the cathedral in the Facebook pages of Egyptian online newspapers, as a contemporary interactive communication arena, in order to monitor the strategies of arguments and their inferential methodologies and how to employ persuasion and maneuver strategies to influence others through them.
The study employs quantitative and descriptive methods to diagnose relationships between variables.
The paper harnesses the theoretical background of argumentation theory.
the main results concluded by this study included that there was no pluralism, and the dialectic communication took place on both sides of the conversation, however it was found that there were strategies of skepticism, ridicule, attack on the other and its arguments in the process, which is what made the argumentation discourse appear in.
