The relationship between the exposure to print and electronic journalism and its effect on the level of knowledge of university students about national security issues

Abstract

This paper aims to identify to what extent the exposure of university students to print and electronic newspapers effect their knowledge and ability in obtaining information about national security issues on one hand, and the ability of these newspapers to narrow the knowledge gap between various categories of university students regarding the issue of national security in its various dimensions.
The study employs quantitative and descriptive methods to diagnose relationships between variables.
The paper harnesses the theoretical background of dependency theory and knowledge gap approach.
the main results concluded by this study included that majority of university students are keen on being exposed to newspapers and news websites such as the El Yom El Sabaa , El Masry El Yom , AlAhram  for its speed in covering  news, ease of interaction, and availability.
