Abstract

The problem of the study is related to the Egyptian national security. Egypt is currently facing crises that address almost all of these dimensions, and as it is evident, when important issues arise on the public arena and the media compete in covering them, those issues become in the focus of public attention, then the question arises about the ability of television to form knowledge and trends of public opinion towards these Emergency issues and events, taking into account the different levels of political awareness, political orientations, personal characteristics, and the degree of association with issues among members of the public.
The study aims at understanding the role that governmental and private satellite channels play in shaping the knowledge and attitudes of Egyptian youth regarding Egyptian national security issues.
The study attempts to identify the effect of some intermediate variables on this role, including: the level of conflict in the issue, the level of political awareness, the level of familiarity with the issue, and demographic variables such as age, gender, and socio-economic level.
