Abstract

The number of Syrian refugees, after the repercussions of the Syrian civil war in March 2011, reached more than 5.5 million Syrian refugees, most of whom are women and children. Each of the neighboring countries dealt separately with Syrian refugees, according to their political, social and economic conditions.
Although the Syrian refugees are a humanitarian issue that deserves sympathy with them, the media differed in their positions and their presentation of their image according to several factors. The most important of which are: the editorial policy of the media outlet, the extent of its proximity or distance from the state’s policy in which it is issued, the state’s position on the Syrian war and the media’s position on Actors in the international system and their position on the neighboring countries of Syria, especially Turkey.
This research deals with the image of Syrian refugees in two newspapers: one is Arab, which is Al-Hayat London, and the other is American, which is The New York Times, during 2016 to find out how the image of Syrian refugees was presented in them and a comparison between the presentation frameworks in the two newspapers.
