The Educational Reality of Applied Courses in Media Colleges and Departments in Saudi Universities: A Survey Study

This study intended to find out the educational reality of practical communication courses in mass communication colleges and departments in Saudi universities, and to discover the ability of these academic programs in colleges and departments to qualify male and female students in the matter of skills and knowledge to the excellent level in the field of communication. Therefore, the researcher employed the survey methodes through questionnaire tool to obtain the main information from the intendeed individuals. The study community included male and female students in colleges and departments of mass communication in Saudi universities, whose reached (1549) individuals.
 
The findings in this study showed that there were shortages in communication skills that male and female students acquire during their current studies in the collegs and departments of mass communication in Saudi universities, and that there were high deficiencies in the teaching process of the practical communication courses. Also, the role of the applied coomunication study materials that they study in acquiring applied skills in the field of communication study was in the average level. The results also showed the limitation of using the educational resources and means in teaching practical communication courses.
