Abstract

"The study aims to identify the role of news coverage of Jordanian economic issues on Roya and Al-Mamlaka channels in shaping Jordanian public opinion on the government's economic performance. It is based on the Media Dependence Theory and utilized a purposive sample of 500 respondents from the Jordanian governorates of Amman, Irbid, and Karak. The study found a high rate of viewership for Roya and Al-Mamlaka channels among Jordanians, with an increased interest in following the economic issues presented on these channels. The issue of rising prices of goods and services (basic goods, water and electricity services, and fuel derivatives) topped the economic issues, accounting for 51.2%, due to its direct impact on citizens' living conditions. As for the reasons for the Jordanian public’s reliance on Roya and Al-Mamlaka channels for economic information, the primary reason was 'exclusive news coverage of Jordanian economic issues,' which was cited by 48.4% of the respondents, particularly for Al-Mamlaka. Additionally, 41.6% of respondents trusted the credibility of economic information to a high degree, compared to 37.6% who trusted the information to a moderate degree."
