The Exposure of Saudi University Youth to Digital Platforms Series and its Impact on their Values.

Abstract

The study aims to identify the extent to which Saudi university youth are exposed to dramatic series presented on digital platforms and its impact on their values. The researcher used the survey method to suit the objectives and questions of the study. The study was applied to a sample of (772) individuals from King Saud University students. The sample was selected according to the random sampling method, and study data were obtained by an electronic questionnaire.
The study concluded with a number of results, the most important of which are:
- Netflix platform came in first place among the most used and followed digital platforms among the study sample members with a rate of 75.13%, followed by the Starz Play platform in second place with a rate of 29.79%, then the Shahid Net (MBC) platform came in third place by 14.51%.
- The study sample prefers to watch American series followed by Saudi series . The behavior of watching two to three episodes per session came in first place at a rate of 54.02%, while viewing one episode per session came in second place at a rate of 23.32%.
- Ritual motives (passing time, feeling pleasure, getting away from life’s routine and pressures) came at the forefront of the study sample’s motives for watching series on digital platforms.
- There is a statistically significant correlation between the intensity of university youth’s exposure to series on digital platforms and its impact on their values.
