Abstract

The current study seeks to analyze podcast programs with documentary content, in order to monitor the extent to which the form and duration of the documentary material presented through podcasts are affected by the characteristics of digital media in general, and podcasts in particular, in a way that makes them different from traditional documentary material. The researcher carried out a quantitative and qualitative analysis of three podcast programs affiliated with satellite news channels in a comprehensive inventory method for a year from 7/12/2022 to 7/12/2023, and the study relied on the theory of functional constructivism and media richness. The study reached important results stating that the documentary content has taken the form of storytelling, which is consistent with the nature of podcasting in creating new forms of presenting radio content, forms that are dominated by an atmosphere of friendliness and harmony between the host and the listener. Also, the duration of the documentary content has become short in line with the fast pace of life. The presented material is not devoid of audio reinforcements and is also interspersed with verbal reinforcements. The historical and military fields also dominate the content, followed by sports and economics.
