Abstract

The media affects the political process in society by influencing public opinion by providing a huge amount of information that the public uses in their judgment of candidates and by directing them to the candidates, their programs and what they present to voters, and focusing on specific issues and giving them greater importance than others (). This effect varies depending on the target audience of the media message. When this audience is external or outside the scope of direct media influences, such as the expatriate audience, who may not be exposed to the same media content as resident citizens, therefore the expected impact of the media may differ, and this increases especially in times of Crises or changing political conditions, which require the media to develop plans targeting this external audience in order to achieve their desired effects.
Hence, the research problem is defined in a main question: “What role does the media play in supporting the political participation of Egyptians abroad in the 2020 parliamentary elections?”
