Abstract

The study aimed to identify the role of digital public relations practitioners in Jordanian government institutions in combating rumors published through external media channels. This study is classified as descriptive-analytical research, which relied on the survey methodology, where the sample of the study consisted of (65) items as a comprehensive enumeration of all items in the study community, which is represented by digital public relations practitioners in Jordanian government institutions. To achieve the goals of the study, the researcher relied on the questionnaire as a data collection tool for enriching the research.
The study found that the level of use of digital technologies by public relations practitioners in combating rumors was medium, with an average of (2.15).
The study also showed that the most commonly used digital public relations tools were social media platforms, where Facebook was the most popular with a percentage of (92.3%), followed by WhatsApp with a percentage of (47.7%).
The study revealed that the approach adopted by Jordanian government institutions in combating rumors is to present the facts and evidence. Furthermore, the study identified that one of the main challenges faced by digital public relations practitioners in combating rumors is the speed and spread of misinformation. The study also showed that practitioners tend to focus on emphasizing the institution's values and maintaining effective communication with core interests as a strategy to combat rumors.
