Abstract

The research problem is determined by identifying the mechanisms followed by the Egyptian political system during the crisis of the floatation Egyptian pound and its negative economic repercussions on the entire Egyptian society, through analyzing the discourse of 3 governmental daily Egyptian newspapers, by emphasizing the role played by the newspapers (Al-Ahram - Al-Akhbar – Al-Jumhuriya) in defining how the Egyptian political system deals with this economic crisis.
In this study, the researcher applies two complementary theoretical approaches, the first is the problematic situation model, and the second is the propaganda model of Noam Chomsky and Herman.
The three newspapers’ propaganda speech appeared by emphasizing the importance of the presidential initiatives initiated by President Abdel Fattah El-Sisi, which have the greatest role in containing the repercussions of the economic crisis in Egypt.
The researcher believes that the discourse of the three newspapers resorted to the mechanism of evading questions and trying to divert attention to other issues, as the newspapers loyal to the authority excessively used this mechanism by jumping from the crisis of the floating Egyptian pound to praising national projects and presidential initiatives that save the country from the repercussions of the economic crisis.
