Binge Watching of drama series via digital platforms and its relationship to shaping the mood of Arab families

Abstract

The study was based on two approaches (selective exposure and public mood management), as the individual tends to be exposed voluntarily to the preferred contents, through various means of communication, so he chooses the content that is compatible with his tendencies and directions, and avoids consciously or unconsciously the means that do not agree with it, and since individuals tend to Maximizing their positive mood and reducing their negative mood, so we note the link between the theory of general mood management and the theory of selective exposure to media content, where the choice of the medium is driven by the pleasure motive resulting from the emotional state of the user according to the principle of improving the mood. Preferred content, watching its contents heavily, and avoiding unwanted content. The general mood within communities has two states/ positive mood, such as feeling optimistic&hopeful, happiness, contentment, and comfort, versus/negative mood, such as frustration, dissatisfaction, sadness, anxiety, fear.
      The research came to monitor and explain the repercussions of voracious viewing of drama series through selective exposure to digital platforms on the general mood of Arab families, in light of the theories of selective exposure and management of public mood. The study aims to identify the nature of the relationship between the size and degree of selective exposure, which leads to voracious viewing of drama series through Digital platforms, and its implications for the general mood of the Arab family, and perceived benefit to them Of which.
      The study revealed that there is a correlation between the selective exposure of Arab families to drama series on digital platforms, and the degree of perceived benefit from them, and it showed the great effect of the Binge Watching of the drama of digital platforms on the follow-up of TV drama.
