Reality of Applying Digital Transformation Techniques in the Content Industry in Sudanese Press Organisations

Abstract

This study seeks to identify the Reality of Applying Digital Transformation Techniques in the Content Industry in the Sudanese Press Organisations and to shed light on challenges facing journalists in these organisations. To achieve the study objectives, the researcher has used a survey approach through employing an electronic questionnaire to a sample of 54 journalists and administrators working in Sudanese press Organisations representing a number of newspapers: Al-Sudani, Al-Harak Al-Syasi, Al-Jareeda, Al-Nitibah and Al-Tyar, during a period extending from February to March 2022.The results have revealed that there is a general acceptance on the mechanism of applying digital transformation techniques in the production of content in the Sudanese press organisations from the view point of  journalists. The results have shown that the digital photography techniques, tools of digital editing and production and electronic printing are among the most prominent tools and techniques of digital transformation applied by the organisations under research. The results have also demonstrated that the benefits of the organisations under research from the digital techniques are manifested in the speed of producing and disseminating the journalistic content, saving time and effort and preserving the financial resources of the organisation. The results have exhibited that 78% of the organisations under research produce paper and electronic content at the same time and the results have also demonstrated that lack of training and qualification to deal with digital techniques and the absence of tools and capabilities supporting digital transformation are the most prominent technological challenges. The high costs of equipment and technological apparatuses and the state of economic deterioration represent the most important economic challenges. The interest in developing the digital infrastructure of the press organisations, shifting towards social media journalism, providing intensive training courses and interest in developing and supporting the technical and technological sections in the list of strategies and future plans supporting the achievement of the digital transformation. The results have indicated that there is a statistical correlation between the reality of digital transformation in production of content in the Sudanese Press Organisations and the challenges and problems facing these institutions.
