Youth exposure to fake news on social networks and its relationship to their attitudes towards participation in the 2020 Parliamentary Elections

Abstract

The aim of the current research is to identify the relationship between youth exposure to fake news through social networks and their attitudes towards participation in the 2020 parliamentary elections, by conducting a descriptive field study using the media survey method on a deliberate sample of social network users of (376) young people using the questionnaire tool and the attitudes toward participation in the parliamentary elections scale (prepared by the researcher), The research found: that (64.9%) of the youth sample always use social networks, and the most important reasons for youth using social networks are to obtain information about current events, then to interact and participate in discussions about the issues at hand, and that Facebook tops the list of websites. The most used by young people, followed by WhatsApp, then YouTube, and Irony and sarcasm came in the first order of forms of fake news that the sample is exposed to through social networks, and there is a statistically significant relationship between youth exposure to fake news via social networks and their trends Towards participation in the 2020 parliamentary elections.
