The treatment of the Egyptian Ministry of Health and Population Official Page of the Corona pandemic and its relation to the awareness of the public: media richness theory

Abstract

The present study aims at identifying how the main page of the Egyptian Ministry of Health and Population tackled the disease of Covid-19 in relation to the public awareness. This will be implemented through conducting two studies: 1) an analytical study of the published content on the Facebook page of the Ministry and 2) a field study on a sample of 400 people. The study is based on carrying out a media survey, using the tools of analysing the content and the survey for the purpose of collecting date required for the study.
The study reached various conclusions. The analytical study showed the high concern of the page to spread the ways of protection and cure from the virus. It targeted the public by raising their awareness of the published content, using infographics as a tool to circulate information and data. The field study showed how researched greatly depended on the main page of the ministry, considering it as a prime source of the information and the latest data regarding the spread of the virus.
The rate of the respondents’ influences was high. The “behaviour influences” were at the top for the influences because of the respondents’ keen follow-up of the latest news of Covid-19 through the main page of the Ministry. The study proved that there is a statistically positive relation between the reliance of the respondents on the page and their rate of awareness of the virus.
