Abstract

This study sought to monitor the most important reasons that motivate Egyptian youth to watch Ramadan series on websites and mobile applications (Second Screens) over the Internet, and to identify the impact of modern technology applications that display Ramadan programs and series on the intensity of television follow-up as a traditional medium.
As the power and impact of alternative screens has escalated in recent years and its repercussions on the audiences of traditional television, this study is also one of the few studies that have examined websites and mobile applications in the presentation of dramas.
Based on uses and gratifications theory a field study (survey) has been conducted included a sample of educated Egyptian youth from the age of 18 to 35 years, - who watch TV dramas - consisting of (361) respondents using the available sample method.
The results show that skipping ad breaks and being able to watch at a time that suits the sample came at the top of the motives of Egyptian youth watching series through websites and mobile applications (Second Screens). The results also showed that Egyptian youth see a significant impact of electronic platforms and mobile applications on the rates of traditional television viewing, and that a large percentage of Egyptian youth do not see the sites and applications that display series in Ramadan (illegally) as outright theft or as an assault on intellectual property rights.
