Abstract

The study relied mainly on two theoretical approaches: the approach to public affairs, where the spread of the Internet as an arena for communication between users helped it enter the stage of what are called political platforms, and then soon turned into an arena for disputes, debates and political discussions, which led to a diversity of research questions included in Habermas’ theses about public affairs and what the internet plays as a force that exerts an influence on the process of political communication in society, and the play theory which can provide a logical analysis of situations of conflict  and co-operation, by knowing the identity of the interacting parties, and the preferences of each party, as well as the strategic actions allowed for the parties, and the extent to which different decisions affect the final choices of individuals.
The research gap appeared in light of the analysis of the scientific heritage, which revealed the absence of a qualitative aspect in dealing with media platforms with all its contents, whether discourse analysis, cultural studies, linguistic and critical studies, in addition to neglecting the theoretical explanation of the effects of news platforms.
The study problem is identified in analyzing the ideological structures of the electoral discourse in the Egyptian and Western media platforms by applying to the Egyptian Parliament elections 2020.
The study relied on the survey approach to analyze the ideological structures of the electoral discourse in the party, public Western and Egyptian media platforms, and relied on the tool of discourse analysis through its focus on the postmodern approach, which seeks to analyze the text’s implications through a variety of sample analyses to expand the scope of the ideological analysis to include Western television sites represented in sites like the  BBC,  France 24 channel, and Egyptian sites like Youm7, Al-Wafd, Al-Ahram and Al-Masry Al-Youm website during the period fifteen days before the Egyptian elections , the period for submitting candidacy applications for the first stage was September 17, 2020, and this stage ends after the announcement of the election results because the elections end by December 19, 2020, i.e. five days after the end of the elections.
