The role of new output technologies in attracting readers to news websites

Abstract

The study aims to analyze the role of production technologies in attracting readers to the electronic news websites, and to reveal how these websites use traditional production elements, technology design elements and interactive tools provided by the Internet to attract readers. The study used the survey method and the questionnaire tool by applying it to 400 individuals from the Saudi community.
The main results:
- The difficulties faced by respondents in using these websites are determined in “the large number of electronic advertisements on the site” (82.3%), then “the slowness of the site” (64.7%), and finally “the difficulty of navigation and usability of the site” (50.3%).
- The respondents' motives for using news websites are determined in “spreading the news immediately” (98%), then “showing the events in a way that matches our circumstances” (96.7%), and finally “because these websites have credibility and objectivity in presenting the news” (75%).
- There is a statistically significance relationship between the respondents ’keenness to follow news websites and their motives of use.
- There is a statistically significant relationship between the difficulty in using these sites and the respondents' impression of these sites.
- There is a statistically significant relationship between the respondents ’keenness to follow the news websites and the extent of their attraction to these sites.
- There is a statistically significant correlation between the respondents' motives for using news websites and their satisfaction of using these websites.
