Abstract

The current study raises many questions related to the concept of professional standards for journalistic practice, as well as the extent to which journalists are exposed to professional performance evaluation pages on social media sites, specifically “Facebook”, through a field study conducted on a sample of 200 Egyptian journalists working in Egyptian press organizations
The study sample's follow-up of professional performance evaluation pages was reflected in their use of this type of pages on social media, as a large proportion of the study sample confirmed that their most prominent uses lie in identifying professional mistakes committed by their colleagues in the Egyptian press organizations, in addition to identifying new stylistic methods in Press editing and the discovery of new angles for journalistic treatment, and this result was consistent with the high confidence of the content published on these pages on the "Facebook" site.
Regarding interactivity across these pages, the study sample confirmed that they follow the comments and often pay attention to negative comments, especially since this type of comments may draw the attention of journalists to mistakes that can be corrected in the future, in addition to the negative comments indicating the accurate follow-up by the public to the contents published in newspapers.
